AdA Certification Cost and Process in India — Everything You Need to Know

The most common question I receive about the AdA certification after "what is it?" is "how much does it cost and how long does it take?" I will give you direct answers to both — and also explain the parts of the process that are often not mentioned.

The complete process, step by step

Step one is the preparation course. The AEVO examination covers all four Handlungsfelder in depth, with a strong focus on scenario application. Preparation takes approximately 60–80 hours of structured study — more if your German needs to be built up in parallel. The AdA by Azubiba programme covers the complete curriculum with exam-focused content and includes both written and oral exam practice.

Step two is the German language, and this needs to run parallel to the content preparation, not after it. The AEVO examination is conducted in German. Reading the questions, writing the open-answer responses, and delivering the practical oral exam all happen in German. You need B1 minimum to pass the written exam. B2 gives you significantly more confidence and flexibility in the oral component.

Step three is exam registration. The AEVO examination is administered by the IHK (Industrie- und Handelskammer) or HWK (Handwerkskammer) in Germany. For candidates outside Germany, some IHK offices cooperate with partner institutes to offer examinations abroad. Azubiba guides candidates through the registration process — the German bureaucracy around exam registration is manageable but not always straightforward for someone navigating it for the first time.

Step four is passing the examination itself — written first, then practical oral. Both must be passed. They are typically scheduled within the same examination period.

Step five is the certificate. After passing, the IHK or HWK issues the official AdA certificate. It does not expire. It is valid permanently, across Germany and the EU. One examination, one certificate.

On costs — what I can and cannot tell you here

I follow ILO fair recruitment principles across everything I do, including the AdA programme. All fees are provided in writing before you commit to anything. I will not publish a number here because the total depends on your current German level and whether you need language preparation as part of the programme or are coming in at B1 already.

What I can tell you: the costs cover preparation course and study materials, exam registration support, and the guidance through the process. At the first conversation, you receive a written breakdown. If at any point you decide not to proceed, there is no penalty.

Realistic timeline

From starting preparation to receiving your certificate: 6–9 months if you are at B1 German already. If you are starting from a lower German level, add the time needed to reach B1 — which is 6–12 additional months depending on where you start and how consistently you study. The total is longer than people expect. It is also worth it if you are serious about this qualification.

One thing worth knowing before you decide

The AdA certification is not a light commitment. The examination is rigorous, the language requirement is real, and the preparation requires sustained effort over several months. I tell every candidate this at the start. The people who succeed are the ones who knew what they were getting into. The ones who struggle are usually the ones who underestimated the language component or the time required.
